Reactive Blog #3 - Simple Ways To Fix Your Humming Washing Machine

Simple Ways To Fix Your Humming Washing Machine

Washing machines, like most household appliances, are used constantly tend to go wrong a lot. One of the most common and overlooked problems is a strange humming sound coming from the machine. A lot of the problems this may be are an easy fix, that can be done by yourself.

Carbon Brushes In The Motor

If the washing machine is sounding as if it is working but then the drum is not turning (as well as the humming), the most likely reason could be worn out carbon brushes in the motor. The brushes are located on both sides of the motor are really cheap and easy to replace to replace.

Washing Machine Pump

A slight humming noise may be caused by a jammed pump trying to turn. The most common explanation for the pump not spinning is a small piece of clothing caught in the pump. The only way to fix this problem is taking the machine apart so that you can remove the stuck item. However, this problem may also be due to a bearing fault, in which case the pump will need to be changed

Drain Hose

If your washing machine is still working fine and you’re getting your clothes nice and clean, but it still makes a humming sound while it's in the draining stage. There could be a problem with the drain hose. To Resolve this issue, you can try and get the drain hose replaced. Hopefully, this will solve your problem. If it still continues to make the annoying humming noise, then there is still something
wrong with the water supply.

Water Supply

If you are still having problems with the water supply and the washing machines seems like it is not taking in water (as well as the humming), it seems like it could be that the water isn’t flowing properly or at all. Check inside and see the water supply in the machine and check that the taps are actually on. Then fully unplug the washing machine for extra safety and turn off the taps supplying water to it. Unscrew the fill hoses from the water valve. Hold the hose over a bucket and turn on the taps to see if there is a decent water supply coming through the hose.

If the water flow is still not that great, then we suggest you check for any blockage in the water valve’s filter. This fault is rare, but it's still worth a check. Carefully take off the water valve filter with flat pliers and clean the filter. Be careful, as most filters are made of brittle plastic and can easily break and it’ll cost more to replace. If the water flow is slow or if there is no water coming through the hose, then there is likely a plumbing fault. This usually happens in the winter as sometimes the pipes can freeze.

Reactive Blog #2 - Quick and Easy Sky Box Signal Fixes

Quick and Easy Sky Box Signal Fixes

There's nothing more annoying when you go to watch TV after a long day and the Sky Box isn't working... Again! So here is 5 quick and easy ways you can try and fix it yourself at home. Unfortunately, if you think that it isn't working due to bad weather you will have to wait it out I'm afraid.

No Signal? No Problem

If you are experiencing problems with signal, first you could check for the obvious. Check that the cables have not came loose or disconnected from the back of the Sky Box, this is a very common and petty issue but its one of the quickest to fix. Once the cables have been reconnected, you are good to troubleshoot the problem and restart the Sky Box.

To stop this from happening again, check there isn't anything on/around the cable that is pulling on it.

Simple System Reset

If you still aren't having any luck and your cables are plugged in perfectly, the next step is to try a transponder reset. To do this you should press and hold the Standby button on your Sky remote until the red light indicating ‘Off” comes on. Wait five seconds before pressing the Sky button on your remote. The light will change to orange indicating the Sky Box is now in standby mode. Wait another five or so minutes before going to the next step which is to press the Sky button again. It will go to its default Welcome Channel - 998, which confirms the reset and connection status.

If this doesn't work you can try switching the box off at the mains, leaving it off for 5 minutes and then turning it back on.

Realign the Satellite Dish

It’s easy for a satellite dish to be knocked out of place by anything from typical British weather to a window cleaner accidentally knocking it. If the dish has been knocked out of position you can try to realign it yourself or call a technician to do it for you. While you’re up there, you can also check the general condition of your dish. It may be rusty or corroded, in which case a replacement is absolutely needed.

Try Something New

Having issues still? we would recommend trying a friend / neighbours Sky Box and if theirs works then yours is faulty. If their box doesn't work at your place we would recommend to try different cables.

Reactive Blog #1 - Household Heatwave Life-Hacks

Household Heatwave Life-Hacks

If you haven't already realised right now in the UK we have a heatwave going on, so here are some top tips for how to keep cool and enjoy yourself this summer.

Fan and Ice

If you place a bucket of ice or a few frozen water bottles directly in front of the fan. The fan will blow air over the ice, creating a homemade air con. It may not look the part, but it'll keep you cool in these summer days. If a big bucket of ice sounds like a lot of work, a wet towel will do the trick.

Anticlockwise Ceiling Fan

Most ceiling fans have a setting where you can change the direction of the motor. Each appropriate for a different season. Counterclockwise is suitable for summer. If you stand beneath the fan and turn it on and you immediately feel a breeze from the fan, then it's set on the "summer" setting. Otherwise, turn off the fan, climb up near the base of the fan, and look for a little button or switch that sets the fan to run in the opposite direction.

Freeze Ice-Cream in Ziplock Bags

Don’t you hate it when you go to eat your ice cream on a hot summers day but its taking ages to melt because it's been in the freezer too long? Well if you place it in a ziplock bag before you put it in the freezer it will prevent this from happening. You’ll be able to scoop it right out the tub straight away!
