Reactive Blog #1 - Household Heatwave Life-Hacks

Household Heatwave Life-Hacks

If you haven't already realised right now in the UK we have a heatwave going on, so here are some top tips for how to keep cool and enjoy yourself this summer.

Fan and Ice

If you place a bucket of ice or a few frozen water bottles directly in front of the fan. The fan will blow air over the ice, creating a homemade air con. It may not look the part, but it'll keep you cool in these summer days. If a big bucket of ice sounds like a lot of work, a wet towel will do the trick.

Anticlockwise Ceiling Fan

Most ceiling fans have a setting where you can change the direction of the motor. Each appropriate for a different season. Counterclockwise is suitable for summer. If you stand beneath the fan and turn it on and you immediately feel a breeze from the fan, then it's set on the "summer" setting. Otherwise, turn off the fan, climb up near the base of the fan, and look for a little button or switch that sets the fan to run in the opposite direction.

Freeze Ice-Cream in Ziplock Bags

Don’t you hate it when you go to eat your ice cream on a hot summers day but its taking ages to melt because it's been in the freezer too long? Well if you place it in a ziplock bag before you put it in the freezer it will prevent this from happening. You’ll be able to scoop it right out the tub straight away!

Chill Drinks In Minutes

There's nothing worse than a lukewarm cider on a scorching hot day. Save yourself from such travesties by wrapping the bottle or can in a wet paper towel and placing it in the fridge or freezer for 10-15 minutes.
